The Securities and Exchange Commission is the main US regulator for securities and the markets where they are traded. It oversees the issuance and trading of stocks and bonds, registers brokers and investment advisers, and enforces laws designed to protect investors and maintain fair, orderly markets. This includes reviewing new security offerings, monitoring trading on national exchanges, and pursuing enforcement actions if fraud or misrepresentation occurs.

The other organizations are established in different regions or domains: the European Central Bank handles monetary policy for the euro area, the European Securities and Markets Authority oversees European markets at the EU level, and the Bank of England is the UK’s central bank. So, for the United States, the regulator focused on securities is the Securities and Exchange Commission.
